HVAC Controls Estimator
Overview
HVAC Controls Estimators are a critical piece in the sales, bidding and securing work process. The position will be responsible for preparing HVAC controls estimates and proposals to position EC&D in the most competitive position possible. The estimator will be tasked with staying up-to-date on new industry trends as it relates to HVAC and HVAC controls to ensure we are estimating the most current and technologically advanced solution available. This position will develop and manage multiple, concurrent proposals along with proposal due dates. Identifying risk for bids and proposals along with communicating that to the Account/Project Manager prior to bid day will be a key everyday activity of the HVAC Controls Estimator.
Job Details & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the cost estimates consisting of materials, sub-contractors, purchased equipment, labor and other project related activities to assist Account/Project Managers in bidding on or determining the price of a project
- Develop clear, concise, detailed scope of work proposals based on project plans and specifications or Account/Project Managers design build scope
- Create detailed cost estimates including preliminary controls sketches, scope definition, inclusions and exclusions, vendor quotes and subcontractor quotes
- Communicate with engineer and/or owner to confirm intent/objective of the project
- Responsible for identifying possible cost saving opportunities on bids
- Optimize job costs by negotiating quantity and job discounts with vendors
- Lead pre-bid meeting with Account/Project Manager to review proposal, estimate and risk items
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Contribute to a team focused culture
- Take guidance and work direction from General Manager and Account/Project Managers
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in engineering related discipline is preferred
Experience:
- Previous estimating, engineering, project management or programming (minimum of 4 years is required)
- Prior experience in controls, Electrical estimating, HVAC and/or building automation (minimum of 4 years is required)
Competencies:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook and other Windows products
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Basic Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Pass initial employment criminal background checks
- Pass initial employment as well as random selection drug testing
- Moderate to exceptional computer skills
- Ability to carry and climb ladders

- Maintain a well-groomed, neat and professional appearance
