History

Energy Control & Design, Inc. was founded in 1979 by Jim Gibson and Rick Hayes. At that time the company went by the name of Control Design Group. Mike Bevers joined Jim and Rick in the business in May of 1980 and Jim Dyer came on board later that same year. They acquired the exclusive distribution rights for the Landis & Gyr-Powers controls line, and have held that line ever since. Siemens Corp. acquired Landis & Gyr-Powers in 1998, and re-named that division to Siemens Industry, Inc.

Between 2000 and 2002 ownership of the company was handed down to three existing technicians who worked in the field for Energy Control & Design; Gary Jahnke, Randy Vanevenhoven and Tim Bevers. While Gary Jahnke has now retired, the company is still being run by owners with years of field experience which translates into knowledgeable, quality decisions for both employees and customers.

Work Force

Energy Control & Design is one of the largest independent temperature controls contractors in Northeast Wisconsin and Upper Michigan currently with over 50 permanent full-time employees. Since EC&D is a union affiliated company, it can also supplement its work force by drawing on labor pools from the local Steamfitter and Electrician unions.

Depth of Experience

Unlike many other local contractors, EC&D’s business focus and expertise is primarily temperature controls. The depth of experience at Energy Control & Design, Inc. is unlike most other temperature controls companies in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We are able to achieve a high depth of experience due to extremely low staff turnover.

EC&D’s business is focused on medium to large scale commercial projects, which typically include hospitals, schools, government facilities and other large-scale commercial buildings. By using innovative products, experienced management and a skilled work force, Energy Control & Design, Inc. is positioned to deliver a high-quality Building Automation System.

Local Ties

Energy Control & Design is locally managed and is based in Appleton, Wisconsin. Our technicians live throughout Northeast Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This close proximity ensures tight project supervision and strong follow-up. EC&D’s employees take pride in their work as they are often working in businesses they patronize or schools their children attend. EC&D provides exceptional customer support by having technicians available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to customer needs.

Relationship with Siemens Corporation

Energy Control & Design, Inc. continues to be privately owned, but as an independent field office of Siemens Corporation it receives full support from Siemens Corporate just like an actual Siemens owned branch.  EC&D has received recognition and many awards over the years as an IFO of Siemens Corporation.
